8" or 8.8" rear diff

will an 8.8 E-locker fit in a 94 hi-lux 8" rear axle housing or do I need the whole FJ rear axle assembly (I know I will have to buy 30 spline axles)

Im not familiar with the 8.8, what exactly is it coming out of?

You sure you dont mean the 8.4?

And your 8" axle is already 30 spline...

I think a 1991-1997 land cruiser (FJ62?) uses this differential ? I have a 1995 Hi-lux with a 350 Chevrolet I just want to beef up the rear a little. With intentions on a SAS next.

Gotcha. Then no. A LC third will not fit into a Hilux axle.

Well, not that one anyway...

Hi-pinion Electric Locker

A factory option on ‘93-97 Landcruiser FZJ-80's is a hi-pinion electric locking front differential. It can be installed into modified 8" axle housings, similar to the 4Runner/Tacoma locker mentioned above. The reverse-cut gear sets for this diff are the same as for the standard hi-pinion diff mentioned earlier.

These vehicles also had an optional 8.875" REAR electric locker. This one has been retrofitted into other Landcruiser models with considerable effort (see this article), but it doesn't appear to be compatible with any non-Landcruiser vehicles.

What would be my best option? as I have the FJ axle in my surplus pile. Use the FJ axle and cut the width with new axles. What else can I consider ? the reason I would like to stay with a Toyota housing is for simplicity with brakes, leveling valve, and fabrication as well as economy(I like to do it cheap). Fab is no problem I just like to keep it simple I have considered an 8.8 axle out of an 1994 ford explorer I have lying around, but a lot more money with a new 4.10 ring and pinion, locker, and new axles
