The rear third? Matt16 has an aussie locker install. Sounds like that is everything you need.

Last time I looked it was in there.

Pull drive shaft, disco brake lines and parking brake lines. Unbolt axle shafts from axle and remove. Rear third comes out.

Ok. i thought that you had to pull out bearings and do all this complicated stuff with complicated tools.
Here's a question... I was looking at Randy's ring and pinion ratio calculator and i typed in 4.10 gears 29" tires (worn out 30") and 60mph. The rpm's didn't add up to what im usually at.
It put me at 2280 RPM and i'm usually at 2600 RPM. This striked my curiosity so i typed in 4.56 gears, 29" tires and 60mph and i got low and behold around 2600 RPM.
I know the PO used to tow a lot with the truck and the numbers seem to match up. Could it be that i already have 4.56 gears? How would i check without opening the diff? My stock axle code is b292 and stock tire size is 225/75/15. My truck is not sluggish off the line and i can shift and 2000 with no lugging whatsoever.
Could i be right in asuming i have 4.56 already put in by the PO? If so that would be great!

You might. Never know. And use the gear calculator in the sticky. I have never used the one on randy's site, so I couldn't tell you how accurate it is.

Jack up on the rear tires. Put a mark on the pinion flange. Turn the tire 2 full revolutions and count the flange revolutions. It will be your ratio. Just over 4 turns (4.10) or just over 4 and a half (4.56) etc. etc.

292 is 4.10's so if the diff has never been touched you have 4.10's in there.

Ok i did that and its just over 4 revolutions. My dreams of already having 456's were crushed.
Kiyobrown i just noticed something. You live in Tacoma! i know this might be a little much to ask because i have no idea of your work schedule but i live in poulsbo which is only about a 45 minute drive from you. When i get the gears could we meet up and maybe we could team up and tackle it? you know how to do it since you've done and i would really appreciate if you gave me a guiding hand on it. let me know if that would be something your interested in.

I was wondering where the hell you lived. my guess was PA.

Anyways, let me know when you find a set of gears. I work a messed up schedule, but if something lines up then it would be fine.

2 sets of hands definitely help in the grand scheme of things.

I definently agree on that. Everything i've done (fixed) on my truck so far has been by myself. Nothing major, Radiator, heater core, thermostat, clutch.
But still nice to have two heads instead of one.
I will try to work something out. I am working for the National park this summer and living there too. but i can come back to civilization for 2 days a week. maybe 3.
i definently dont mind working at night or early morning if thats what your hours let you do stuff.
I'm really hoping on getting lucky with Craigslist and finding gears. otherwise its getting pricey.

I work 24's. So I get stretches of days off, not necessarily weekends. Let me know when you find a set, we will see if we can work something out.

Yeah we will def work something out! quick question; would i just buy two 8" 4.56 r&p? for both the front and back or is there a different one specifically for the front ifs setup?

Front is a smaller diameter. Check Yukon. I know there are other brands. Maybe someone else can chime in, I am drawing a blank right now.
