ok here is the deal i have a 81 and win i am driving in 4wd in snow around town it makes a slight grinding sound but win i desalerate it is a little louder i cheaked the diff and it is thick vary thick if i changed it will it help or is it the backlash i dont know any help will help thanks

Grinding noises could be a couple things.. My rear grinded on decel and it turned out the pinion bearing was going out and the pinion was grinding on the carrier..

 

ok planning on checking the u joints and some other things today is there anyway i can check the 3rd without taking it apart
