Is a 3.4 swap worth it?

Have a 99 4Runner auto that I found local for 1500 bucks with auto 4wd everything it's totaled but was rear ended so the engine and everything is good.

I have a 302 I was planning on putting in and I love the aspect of that power, but I want the cruise to work, etc.. Is the power increase from a 3.0 to a 3.4 that great?

I mean will I be wanting to supercharge it within the first few months after I go to 37's and Solid axle?

Ultimately I want to put the new engine in and Forget about it, then focus on my SAS, and dialing the suspension etc. in and be able to make frequent drives from Florida to La, and to Vi like 2 times a year, should I go with the Toyota setup all the way through, I guess less chances of breaking axles this way, as opposed to the torque from the v8, it's just if I'm going to put that much work into it, do I really want ot stay with a v6?

So, guys that Have swapped, why did you choose the 3.4 over a v8? Or over a Domestic v8? I don't want to go through it, and not be happy with it once I'm done, does this make sense?

Putting it in what? All your Toyotas say "sold"

Your thread was moved to fix your title.

3.4 is reliable and has plenty of power. Swapping one now into a 90 2 door 4Runner.

Well that's my delimma, are you the exception because I'm going to be SAS, big armour bumper's with tire carrier in the back, and 37's shortly after the swap, I run 4.56's now and with the auto on the highway it won't be too bad right after intial swap, downright quick probably, but my goal is for 80 mph on Cruise with 37's, A/C on and not be searchng for gears constantly on the Highway without haveing to gear the crap out of it you know?

It will cost me more initially to do the 3.4 over the 302, but not convinced either way even though I have a 302 sitting in my garage right now...

I like my 3.4, but my goals weren't as lofty as yours. It turns my 33s with ease with the stock 4.10 gears.

If you're going as big as 37s, though, the V8 might be the better choice, but keep in mind all the extra adapters and fab work you're going to need to do, not to mention upgrading your rear axle and driveshafts to handle the extra twist of the engine.

Just my 2 cents.

I like to keep my toyota a toyota... 3.4 bolts in.. dont need to move mounts. If dont clean it looks like it originally came like that. And it just feel gosh darn reliable.

ford's no good dude. . .

and i think you meant to type "you're"

robd obviously was busting on you for repping ford in a yota forum just like anyone else would do out of playful humor

don't go insulting the guy

vandert has a legit question
i'm curious to know if the 3.4 would be enough as well. . .

Yeah, drug my feet and that engine is gone, still have 2 302's though, and now a 5.3 out of a 04 Chevy is on the table with the tranny and transfer case.

Guess I'm going to wait, and then when I have CASH - don't want to put it on a credit card which is what I was going to do, I will buy what is availiable

The 3.4 is a good motor I drove one to 200k with out any issues, when I sold the 4runner it ran great and passed smog. Compared to the 3.0 it is miles above in gas mileage and power, however it isn't a V8. There is also the Lexus 1uz, it is a 4.0 V8 that gets good mileage.

I agree with Whokrz, I'm finishing up my 3.4 swap and the next one is going to be a 1uz cause my 94 sc400 has some balls! I can jump on it and I'm gone. But for either swa get the entire donor vehicle. As there are lots of little pieces that you end up needing.
