3.4 swap gearing questions?!?!

so i have a 1992 4runner with an automatic that im putting a 3.4 in, when i get it back it will be lifted 5 inches, and the 31s arent gunna cut it anymore haha so im gunna go to at least go to 33s, maybe 35s do i need to regear for either?, if so what gearing would be best?

4:88's for 33's or 5:29's for 35's... People run oversized tires all the time with the 22r or the 3.0 so I would imagine the 3.4 would be OK also, but if you want your speedo to be correct (or at least somewhat close) and want the full power of a 3.4 then I suggest regearing.

Yea, if your 4runner originally came with 31 inch tires then it SHOULD have the 4:88 gears... Just look at the door tag for the "G144" gear code! I don't know many people who run 35's with an auto, but that may be because of not wanting an automatic and not because of the strength of the tranny.

if your swapping a 3.4 in, going to 35s on 4.88 gears and sticking with the auto prepare for many tranny issues, extremely poor gas milage and no power, either 5 speed swap it for regear to 5.29s

Why do you feel it will not have any power and suffer from transmission issues.( I am a manual trans person)

I think one would just have to drive it and see . It also depends on just what it is used for.
