3.0 engine removal problem
Hi guys I'm new to this site and I need some help. I've got a 94 pickup ext cab 4x4 with the 3.0. This is my second truck. My first truck was a 1990, also with the 3.0. I turned this over to my son and it's still going strong with 190,000 miles. The 94 I picked up cheap, it had low compression on #3 cylinder which was determined to be bad rings or cyl wall. Well long story short I'm pulling the motor, either to do a 3.4 swap or rebuild the 3.0. I have everthing unbolted, bell housing, starter, exhaust all hoses and electrical. The problem is I have the motor and transmission seperated by about an inch but it won't come any farther. I've jacked up the transmission and lifted and lowered the engine to try and change the angle but it still won't seperate. I think it may be hung up on the crossover. I don't want to get to aggresive with this because I'm afraid of breaking something. Is there something I'm missing? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated because I'm about at the tool throwing point. Thanks,

A crowbar/prybar. Get in there and apply some brute force. Just try to use the engine block as your pivot point if you can. It might take a bit more force than you'd think. You won't break nothin' forcing it back. And it's not hung up on the crossover...yet. Unless it's rotated itself by quite a bit. If so rotate it back to where it was when you started. Then try again.
However, once you pop the transmission input shaft out of the pilot bearing, then it'll try and tilt up towards the crossover pipe because of the lever effect of the transfer case on the rear crossmember. But even then it doesn't take much pressure to push it down far enough to clear.
Trust me, I done this several times now.
You'll get it. If I can you can.
Good luck!
