22RE wiring harness questions
I'm wanting to install a 22RE in my '86 4runner which originally had a 22R. I've recently purchased two doner trucks, an '87 4x4 pickup and an '89 2wd pickup. Both of these trucks have 22RE's and auto trannys. Will the EFI wiring harnesses out of either of these trucks work in my '86 4runner with a 5 speed. How about the ECU's, will they work as well?

87 is going to be your best bet. First off, its 4x4 already. Second, the plugs and wiring will match up to the body harness on your 86. Stay away from the 89, as not only is it a different generation, its 2WD.
The only thin you will have to do is bypass or trick the system into thinking the truck is in neutral for the neutral safety switch.

Hmm... okay thanks. I don't know squat about Toyota auto trannys. Is this process difficult or should I go huntin' for a harness from a 4x4 with manual trans?
