Hello friends! So today I rolled onto the freeway with my 85 toyota pickup and the engine cut out. I tried restarting and she's trying to turn over but ain't starting. I checked the fuses and recently changed the fuel pump/filter everything is sat. Upon doing research I saw checking the distributor cap, and maybe a electrical problem some where else/or mechanically like the timing chain etc. Prior to ripping the engine apart and swapping the timing chain, water pump, etc... any tips on some electrical areas to check....maybe common spots or something that I can check and make sure it is getting power. Engine has 223,000 miles so might be that time for a rebuild a as well. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I suggest checking the basics first - are you getting spark and fuel?

First off get a Manual, Chilton, Haynes or Toyota

All the manuals should/will have trouble shooting flow charts. Start there. It will save you time, money, and familiarize you with the engine and its systems.
