1994 4runner 2wd to 4wd

hey guys, i am new here and i hope i am posting this in the correct area

I own a 1994 2wd sr5 4runner and i want to convert it to a 4wd. what part will i need. i realize this will be expensive and time consuming but it will be a great project. I have thought about buying a totalled 4wd 94 and stripin it down but i am not experienced and i am looking for some guidence

Unless you have done some expensive mods to your 2WD, it would be better to just sell it and buy a 4WD.

I think everyone would pretty much agree it's not really worth the time and money to convert it.

That money would be better spent on a SAS.

Stick around and do allot of reading of people's build threads. You would be amazed what can be done with these vehicles. I'm sure you'll get some good ideas soon.

thanks for the info guys i think i will save up and buy a 4wd pickup maybe 92-95 or a 96, 97 taco. any preferences??

go with a 96-up tacoma either the 2.7L or 3.4L or a 4runner

i think the 3.4l v6 because i want an ext cab and i am not a big fan of 4cyls i had an 01 frontier it terrible!!!
what makes the 96 taco better than the a 90 pickup?

i also want a manual its much easier to control in the mud. i love my 4runner but i need a 4wd the 2wd just isnt workin out i have gotten stuck too many times

Well the 90 pick up is more off road friendly where as the 96+ taco is more family friendly, also, depending where you live, an imported 90-95 Hilux would be best.

buy a 90 pick up with a 5spd and a 3.4L swap, even better!

the problem is $$ lol i would need to scrape up five or six k for a pickup i have been waitin on my dads 95 4runner to quit runin but it wont die its got 312000 and still runnin great if it dies i will just pull the motor out of my 94 and drop it in oh well thanks for the info guys
