1992 22re pickup, reading codes with a test light??

I really need to check the codes on my 1992 pickup. Either the bulb is burned out or the wiring to it needs to be repaired because the light does not illuminate when the vehicle is started nor does it illuminate when the terminals in the diagnostic connector are jumpered.

I have used the test light / analog multimeter method on 5.0 mustangs in the past and was wondering if the same can be done with my truck. I have tried to search but couldn't find anything on it so sorry if this has been asked before.

Thank you.

You could do it that way by tapping into the W circuit(wiring from the ECU W pin to the CEL).

See page EG1-121 of the FSM for more details on that, and/or troubleshooting the diagnostics system.

if you're doing work on it, why not just take the 15 minutes and pull the cluster and at least check the bulb?

Don't feel like it. This is a quick and easy way to see if I have any codes present. I will eventually pull the dash but if there are other things that need to be fixed on it, I want to get it all done at once.
