1989 v6 pickup starting issue

I've been having the issue of going to start my truck recently after driving and all i get is a single click and no start, it starts up flawlessly in the mornings and after work.(sitting for 8 hours) I'm not sure if it helps to diagnose the issue but when I get a buddy to jump me it starts perfectly fine soon as the cables go on no charging needed. My pickup has a brand new starter, starter relay and battery witch I have just put in within the last month.

Thanks, Art

I know you said that the starter is brand new but is it remanufactured? If so it may need the contacts replaced. Also how old is the batt cable? Is there ant corrosion on either end that could be causing a bad connection?

I did the contacts when i put in the starter and for the corrosion i have none at all on my posts the cables are as old as the truck that is what I'm assuming it is at this point I've checked everything else I think even had a parts house test my starter alternator and battery.
