1988 2wd P/U with transmission leak!

Won this truck in a super bowl bet last weekend and everythin is perfect (to me) except a leak in the transmission. Noticed a lot of drips at every stop i make. The garae is a nice pool, but most leaks out after drivin it a lot. Do not notice any problems while driving, no slips or grinds, but just worried about the leak. The person I got it from said it was gear oil from the transmission. The mechanic told him to let it
leak until it needs a clutch, no point in pulling the transmission
down to put the seal in until the clutch has to be done.

Does that sound like what I want to do? I read that it is kinda hard to check the level of the fluid, i have to undo some bolts and feel in there with my finger?! Well, thank you in advance for any help on this. I want to keep this 4 speed on the road stong and not puddle up peoples drive ways.

Thanks

Dustin

Find out where it is leaking from. And gear oil has a distinctive odor to it, should be able to tell for sure what it is. Easy enough to pull the fill plug and check the level there.
