Hello everyone, Iam new here and also just got a 1987 deluxe xtracab 4x4 pickup with auto transmission. The truck is in good shape and only 186,000 miles. The only problem I have is the transmission jerks hard when putting into gear and very hard low 4x4. Also it has slow takeoff and is kinda slow to reach 4th gear and max out at 60mph. It has the 22r 4cylinder motor and 31" tires. Is the trans normal or going bad? Should I keep or sell it? Any advice would be great!

 

pull the transmission and check each set of clutches in the tranny and see if a few are bad and replace them but the truck is worth keeping

 

Got a clean bill of health from the mechanic today. He said the jerking was caused from the idle being set a little high. Also he checked everything and besides minor oil leak and oil burn truck is 100%. He said to drive the hell out of it and worry about it when it stops running. So hopefully it will last.
