i have a 1986 4runner sr5 and i have 2inch leafs in the rear and just turned up torsions in the front and i would like to know my shock options i would like to use bilsteins please help me

 

why not look at the shock manufacture website for your application and height requirements? ie if you have 2" of suspension lift look for ones made for your vehicle that include 2" of lift. Usually 0-2", 1-2", 1-3", 2-3" etc etc.

Or fully flex out your suspension and measure compressed and extended lengths between the shock mounts and look for shocks that include those dimensions.

This question has been asked plenty of times on here and everyone has their own preference in which make/model of shock and only you can determine for yourself what you may like for ride quality, longevity and cost.

i know that the rear is up 2inches with the add on leafs but not sure how high the front torsions are turned up

 

does the truck sit level? if so chances are then your lifted the same as the front, was the AAL put in there to help with rear sag? if so then chances are the rear isn't lifted 2" over stock.

Download yourself a FSM and in that FSM there is height measurements that are based on factory tire sizes. Use that as a guide to how much you are really lifted over stock height, make sure you compensate for tire size as well.

 

it has the 2inch superlift leafs in back and the the guy that used to own it turned the torsions up to sit level and i have 31s im putting on it

 

sorry misunderstood when you said 2" leafs, so if the truck sits level and the front isn't lower than the back, or the back isn't lower than the front what makes you think the front isn't lifted 2" as well?

FYI 2" is alot for just a torsion crank. What ever shock you put in the front it's still gonna be stiff.

 

i dont see any spacers in the front torsions it does clicks alittle in front to if you crank wheels all the way when backing up

 

i wanted to know if anyone knew if there was any other companies that sell 0-2" front shocks for a 1986 4runner sr5 besides the sky jacker nitros? Please help i wish bilstein made some.

Do yourself a favor and get a set of ball joint spacers and then uncrank the torsion bars. You are gonna feel every bump in the road right up your spine.

I have ball joint spacers and bilsteins and it rides great.

And a zuk mod in the back and bilsteins, also rides great.

Cleared 32's with no problems whatsoever.

Stock size bilsteins. Even with the spacers and lift they fit fine and ride great.

 

with the bj spacers in the front did you have to change out the springs or you just added the 14" springs in the back on your build thread

i was also wondering if you did the the 14inch or the 12inch in the rear and do you have the 2inch add on leafs in the back like i have?

 

I don't have an add a leaf. Original saggy stock springs. I got 14in x 125lb coil springs. Then got the bj spacers to level it out.

And yup, the hd bilsteins is what I currently have under my rig.

 

do you think the 14" will work fine with the 2 inch leaf?

 

They sit close to the same height. If you do one you don't need the other. I just read that the coils rode smoother then the aal's so I went that route. I would look at wabfabs site, he has the complete kit of bj spacers, aal's and extended shocks. Pretty much sounds like your setup you want.

 

i figured i can keep the 2inch addon leafs in if they will work with the 14" springs and have the springs in to if you can do that and the springs will soak up the bumps
