I have a 3rd gen 4runner but have a friend that has a 4th gen 4runner. He is thinking of a small lift. I looked under it and...What the heck is up with the shocks? They have a small hose, size of a brake line, running off them. What is it? Can the shocks be replaced? Should they be replaced? What lift can he use with the stock shocks? (springs not spacers)

They are the stock shocks on a 03. I didn't see resevoir.

 

I am guessing the hoses are the X-REAS system. If you search for "xreas" and "lift", I think you will find answers to your questions.
