If it was the actuator that was replaced, are you sure you got the timing correct when the chain was re-installed?

How about a compression test and leak down? Just to be sure...
I just replaced the oil control valve. I would like to have more info before cracking open the valve cover. I'd really hate to dig down that deep to find out tthat's not the problem. But it could def be a timing problem.

I am going to do a compression test as soon as I have a chance just for kicks. I just doubt that it cause it runs good on ocassion.

I'm just saying that I've seen other techs replace oil control valves and have them come back running better, but not as good as they should, because they had debris blocking the pressure supply port for the valve.

^--Interesting.

A very plausible situation.

Its an automatic btw. I really doubt its the tranny. Everything points to engine performance. Shifts fine and on time. Engine revs up slow like the cats clogged (I've had a clogged cat before).

Didi you use a factory cat or aftermarket? I haven't seen much luck with aftermarket cats on toyotas. It may be bad again.

Your half right. The aftermarket cat does not perform well at all as far as emissions goes. I just passed smog.

There are no obstructions within the exhaust system (perfomed exhaust pressure test). So its not a flow problem.

I just drove it to get lunch a little while ago, and the truck was actually doing very well. The throttle response was very light and a pleasure to drive. Its just intermittent and weird.
