Having trouble installing a hitch bike rack on '04 toyota 4runner.

Both Yakima and thule hitch racks hit dangling spare tire carrier and prevent lock bolt from being inserted.

Anyone have this problem?

Can you use a hitch rack and carry a spare tire?

Am I missing something?

the truck has a 2" reciever and I believe the hitch is a class 2 rating.

It would be a Class III if its 2".. .anyways its common on 4runners, in fact Toyota sells a receiver for the runner that has less material behind the hole to clear the spare... When I use a normal hitch I have to loosen the spare, put the hitch in, then tighten the spare back up.

Buy the one you like best, then go to the local machine shop and have them cut a 1/2" or 3/4" off the back of the receiver.
