i wanna know too!

hey timber ... on the inside of your driver's side front door frame, does it show tire pressure and such for 16" wheels and tires? mine does, but my truck is equipped with the 17" setup and i've been hearing that 16" won't fit on mine ... so i wonder why the sticker on the inside of the door frame mentions ONLY 16" ... i mean, it doesn't mention anything about 17" tires/wheels even though it came with them!??!

The 17" Wheels that came with the 03 V8 Sports sold in Texas to girls named Tracy are designed so at 45k the tires promptly fall off the wheel at speeds over 35mph, thus grinding the wheels down to a perfect 16" size ergo allowing you to now be one of the "cool crowd 'Runners" and sport some badass 16"'s. = That's why it says that on the Info sticker on the door.

Hope that helps.

(yes I'm bored at work - yeah I'm a dork..)

45k? well, I've only got 42k to go! whatever shall I do?!?

I don't know if you saw this ... but when I was relatively new to yotatech, I was asking about taking the center caps off and someone told me if I did that, the wheels would pop off ... I fell for it completely and was like "oh god noooo!" I've wised up since then. At least on that one subject. Now I can say "ha HA! Gotcha! My wheels won't pop off!" and similarly "ha HA! Gotcha! My tires won't pop off!"

Though I did have to think about it for .2 seconds.

Seriously though ... I am confused as to why the sticker mentions only the 16" wheels and tires when the '03 Sports supposedly cannot fit 16" anything. (except midgets that are 16" tall)

Tracy:

I have no idea why the sticker does not mention the 17's. But I can tell ya guys that it'll be darn hard to install 16's until someone makes some new ones.

Just an FYI. Wheel spacers make the backspacing less, not more. If these wheels rub, a spacer will only make it worse (unless the only rub is on the control arm).

Also, on the 3rd gens the door jam placard is the same as the 4th gens. I don't know why they do it, but they all come with tire size and pressure for the smaller 15" wheels even if the truck came from the factory with the 16" wheels. Go figure.

I absolutely believe you, Lance. It was just surprising to me that the sticker would say that. I'll have to ask about that when I take it in ... just so I can understand and report back about it.

There's always one alternative. Replace your bigger sports calipers with the smaller SR5 calipers.

On the bright side, you will only have to do it for the front.

Better yet, just replace it with a 3rd gen, and you can fit 15s.

ok, got the wheels, they _look_ great. have to say, i am leery about trying them since wheeler's website says once they are installed, they are mine. have not done the lift yet (anyone want to come to santa cruz this weekend?), and still need to get some shoes, but i will keep you all posted.

00runner- yep, you are right. had my eyes in backwards when i wrote that...

tracy- whose cool 4runner is that in your new avatar?...
