Deaver Spring Rear Coils for 4th Gen 4Runner

I don't know who'd be interested at this point, because it seems as though most of you 4th Geners have your rigs lifted already, but:

I'm having Deaver Spring make coil replacements for me for my '03 4runner sport. I've been waiting to do my lift for a while for all the right components to become available, and when I heard Donahoe's rear coil/reservoir solution was delayed again (no hard feelings to them, they got some major work on BITD and Ford dealings) I decided to go the custom route.

I know many have OME coils and Downey coils, but for reasons I won't get into, I wasn't really satisfied with those coils. To give some perspective on exactly what I ordered, they are going to make coils that are 2" longer than stock and roughly 30% stiffer than stock (Downey's are 20% stiffer than stock). Even though they are a one off order, I'm only looking at $30 more expensive for the pair compared to Downey.

I'm going to run Donahoe's coilovers at the front, so I had Deaver take that into consideration when spec'ing out the rear.

I was also planning on putting TC's UCA's up front, but from various reviews I have heard, they don't give THAT much benefit. I was hoping Donahoe or Camburg would get theirs out in time, but I doubt that is going to happen at this point either.

My only real question is what shocks to run in the rear, but I can figure that out while I'm waiting for my Deaver Springs. I'll probably go with some Fox or Bilsteins.

I'm planning on running 33's all around, and I do realize I'll have to trim with only a 2" lift, but I'm fine with that. I was considering a 4Crawler BL as well, but I'm undecided on that at this point, and I can always do that on my own before or after the suspension lift. I'm using my rig as a chase vehicle right now for my Darpa GC team (autonvs.com) and I tend to get airborn on occasion trying to follow our humvee, so I don't know how dangerous a BL would be in that case.

Well, sorry for the long post. I read pretty much every post here, but I just never have much to add to all of your knowledgable posts. I appreciate all the guidance, even though I haven't asked many questions in here. Thanks to all of the 4th gen folks out there who've taken the guesswork out of many of my decisions.

And if anyone is interested in the same Deaver coils, they are filing them under Jared's 4Runner coils, so you can call them and ask for a set!

Sounds very interesting, what is the coil spring rate in lbs per inch?Unfortunately 20 or 30% over stock doesn't mean to much to me.

Ok, no prob. Guess I wil have to measure the stock springs some time.

BTW if the Deaver coil is 2" longer and 30% stiffer than stock you can probably look at a 3" lift in the back. 2" from just being longer and probably another inch from the fact that a stiffer coil will compress less at stock weight.

I thought about this, and basically told them... minimum 2" of lift. I expect the coils to settle a bit, as many of the OME owners have seen. I basically didn't want my 33's to fit for a year, then rub after the coils sagged too much. Luckily the hoe's up front will allow me to adjust the height.

I'm so busy with the other race that I mentioned, that I'm not going to do the install myself. Demello is going to do the work, so I trust they will set it up properly.

BTW, I know the hoe's are 650lb spring rate.

Cool, let us know how much lift they give and how they fit. Might work out fine.

BTW the OMEs probably settle less than a 1/4". Would love to know how the Deaver coils in a bit. Probably the same.

You keeping the stock shocks in the back?

just a bit of info for the bl...ive caught quite a bit of air and essentially beat my body lift and its held up just fine, i tightened up the bolts at 500 miles and they've stayed tight since. I spent about 7 hours straight jumping my truck with no probs at all.

Nope, have X-Reas, so I'm getting rid of it. If anyone is interested, there will be a set of X-REAS shocks available for sale in about a month

Silver Truck:
Thanks for the info.

And don't worry, I'll do the usual before/during/after shots all around. I've certainly enjoyed all of your pictures.

First wait and make sure you don't spill any fluid from the system during removal. If it's disconnected correctly you'll be fine in selling it, but wait and be sure in case you notice during the removal that fluid leaks from the shock.

Yeah, I'll totally wait until I have it out and uninstalled it correctly before I try and sell it.

BTW, does anyone have the Toyota instructions for uninstalling the X-REAS? I know someone around here at one point said that he/she had the pdf and would email it out, but I didn't find the post.

Thanks.

send it to dumpsite at gmail dot com

that's my "it's inevitable that my email will be picked up by spam spiders in no time" email addy.

spamthecrapoutofme@gmail.com was too long.

I wish I could just take it off myself, but then I'd have no way to get the vehicle up to demello.

I guess, I could just drive it up there resting on the bumpstops! Just kidding.

Thanks a lot rocky.

by the way, I sent all the relevant PDFs regarding/mentioning/illustrating the XREAS system, so I hope that'll help.

who is going to do the removal? if it is a shop that hasn't done it before, be sure to show them those PDFs or else they will probably just unscrew everything and all the fluid will leak out.

Domello offroad will do the uninstall. I don't think they have done it before. I'll be sure and give them everything you sent. Thanks again.

I'm not really sure if anyone would by a used X-reas system anyway.

I tried selling mine once and no one wanted it. Maybe you'll have better luck!

And I'm sure Demello will do a great job - he's worked on Lance's 4th gen. (user: GoodTimes) so much that I'm sure he's pretty familiar with the suspension. Lance's didn't have XREAS, but I still think it'll help and Demello will do awesome.

Well short delay, it seems every company I'm buying stuff from has been bogged down, so I have to wait on my SS TrXus's and Deaver rear coils. No hard feelings, but I'm just like a kid before Christmas. I can't wait. I did get half of it done yesterday at Demello's though. Pictures will come when I have time to get them transferred and sized down.

So far completed:
*X-Reas Removal
*Front Donahoe Racing Coilovers
*Rear Bilsteins with factory coils (will be Deaver Coils once they arrive)
*Measured and sized hybrid sliders (out for powder coating now)
*Purchased (and installed myself when I got home thank you) OffRoadAir's CO2 tank solution. Last time when I was offroad it took me 45min to air back up. Screw that.

On the way:
* Rear Deaver
* Slider Install
* 33X12.50 SS TrXus MT's on AR Mojave Teflons
* Replacement horn for stupid non-suv 4th gen horn.

My only impression of the Hoe's so far is driving home from Santa Ana to San Diego so not really off road (unless you count the 405 potholes offroad), but man were they silky. The runner still held flat in the corners like X-REAS but seemed *much* more controlled over bumps and whoops in the road.

I'll have a much better writeup down the road. I can't say enough about how good Jason and the other guys at Demello are. I looked carefully at their sliders / bumpers / and most importantly the SAS'd '05 Taco and I was really impressed.
