Airbox/Filter... Anything filter better than stock?

I've been reading some information on high silicon levels in 4.0L V6 oil samples. Does anyone know if the airbox/filter is the culprit? Are any of the replacement airbox/filters worth installing for better filtration? I know a bit about AFE since I have a Ford diesel. Is a AFE a good choice for a Toyota?
Thanks,
-john

Regarding aftermarket air filters, I've read reports that the K&N filters do worse at filtering than stock. NOt sure about other non-OEM intakes.

Sticking with the OEM airbox, the Napa/Wix has been reported to do the best job of filtering among the drop in filters available. I think the part # is 46888 for the 05+ Tacoma V6.

Ive heard the same thing about the K&N however when I put my flat panel replacement in, Im now getting 2.5 mpg. Not bad, especially if you consider that you would be selling it the next time a new body style comes in.
