What tests did you do to before replacing the fuel pump ? Test the pump you removed??
Where you having any problems before this ?
Is the Check Engine Light on and Have you pulled the codes
****Are you 100% positive just what was in the gas can?****How long it might have been in there.
Just How much was a little ?? Either you ran out of gas or what you dumped in was enough to contaminate the fuel in the tank.
Did you clog the fuel filter ruin the injectors foul the spark plugs ??
Then it is possible one of those things that just failed not related to anything else.
GOOD LUCK!!

About why new pump
The reason why I put a new fuel pump in it is because my so-called uncle that thinks he's a mechanic knows everything said that's what it was so that's what he told my dad and my dad said to put a new fuel pump in it so he went and bought a new fuel pump and I put it in that's why I put a new fuel pump in it so now I have two people that are on my ˟˟˟˟ list my son and my stupid ass uncle

It might help the youngin to learn a lesson cleaning the underside of the Truck with a Tooth brush
The fuel filter is full of water With luck the filter has caught all of it.
Change the filter you might want to pull the plugs look at them.
Just how much water did you add to the tank?
The ethanol in the gas should absorb the water if possible get as much fresh gas as possible

I've been reading that the filter is on the pump in the tank which the pump is brand new. He said there was about a cup and a half of gas in the 5 gallon can. When I supposedly was putting gas in my truck with that same can it was full

5 gallons of water after that has been removed as best you can a few bottles of gas dry plus fresh ethanol gas should take care of most of the water .
Looking at the spark plugs would be my next step .
