I have 11,000 miles on mine. Here are my probs:

1. Sunroof rattles when in a close position.

2. One time the sunroof auto-close stopped working, after turning off the engine for awhile it worked again "weired".

3. A banging noise when I turn the steering wheel full left. Sounds like something hitting the transmission shield.

Other than that the truck is GREAT!

Ok, I have been traveling way too much and have not been able to get on here, but what recall are you talking about the rear air suspension?

And as for cleaning the beast, it sucks. I just take mine to a local car detail shop and spend 30 bucks to have them wash it.

And I haven't had a single problem and have 5700 miles. Well I do have the rattle in the back seat, but other than that, the truck is awesome.

5500 miles, no problems except that the moonroof rattles when I go over harsh bumps. *knocks on wood*
If it weren't for the fact that the JBL stereo sounds like complete a$$ then this rig would be perfect!

I don't think it's all that hard to wash... The roof is a bit of a PITA (but, I'm coming off a sports car.)

Ditto. I went from a Maxima to this, but I really don't think it is that hard to wash. The only hard part is waxing it and making sure not to get the wax on the cladding, but I have gotten that down pretty good.

I haven't really noticed any problems. I guess the only thing I would like to see is some sort of lighting on the door switches, ie window/locks. At night they are a little hard to make out. I know where they are, but when somebody is riding with me, I have seen them fumbling.

Overall, especially for a redesign, I think Toyota did really well. Going into this I figured there would be some little problems, as it is when anything new comes out. But being one of the first to have one has been pretty cool.

Problems or not, I still love my 4Runner.

Well I am only 5'8" (blah blah blah, yeah I am a short a$$) and I can barely get to the top

Maybe that is another reason I like the 4Runner, makes me feel taller

I'm 6'1" and still have a hard time reaching the top. I have a small step stool, 3 steps, that is use to get the top. I have seen a white rubbermade one at Home Depot pretty cheap. It makes life much easier.

Well, sorry to say, but my CD player gave up on me.
When I load CD it starts playing whole bunch of skipping crap, but if I try few times in and out it finally starts to play and does fine the entire CD.

Had s similar problem with my F150 a few years ago -- was a simple warranty item, actually. If you call in advance, they may be willing to order the part and have it ready when you come in for service.

I know they wil fix it, it goes for repair tomorrow, they will try to resolve this valve tapping issue, so I will ask them to replace the radio as well.
I am still not loosing my faith in 4Runeer, cos I believe that it is generally an awesome truck (when all fixed).

I took a test drive the other day and listened to the JBL system... didn't have a CD with me but it sounded ok on FM. Just how bad is this system?

You know, I've heard a lot of bad stuff said about it. I have it myself, and I think it sounds pretty good. To that, people will say I don't have the "ear" to hear how bad it is. I think one of the things is if you don't crank it way up, it sounds fine. I don't crank it up, so I don't have any problems with it.

I don't think it is so much an ear for it, I think it's more how you listen to it. Some people may prefer different ways different sound systems sound. Every sound system has different strong suits. I know it's not the best system out there, but for most people it will work just fine.

It's all a matter of personal preference.

And to all those that disagree with that

I have the JBL and I think it sounds great too. In fact, it starts sounding good when I crank it up. It's not a "FULLY CRANKED" system and starts to distort after a point but that's up in the "obnoxious" or ear splitting (for me) range.
Bass stays tight, mids and highs are good. The highs aren't super clean but I don't think there are seperate tweeters in ideal spots either (like around the base of the A pillars.
I do feel that for a 10 speaker system, there should be more "boom" but there is no real equalizer to really tweak the system.

Have any of you noticed under acceleration the engine sounds "rattle-y" ? Actually, it sounds like it comes from the exhaust not the engine. Only under acceleration and if I do it gently, it doesn't happen. I only hear it when the windows are down. My friend says it's the same on his Taco and didn't notice it until I pointed it out. I think it's normal and it's me being anal!

To me the JBL just doesn't live up to its price. I forget the actual cost, but wasn't it something in the vicinity of $600? For that much money I'm just not impressed at all. The stock stereo in my last car blew this one away. I probably shouldn't have said in my other post that it sounds like ass, but for the money I would have expected much more. Oh well, that's just me.

I had to replace my stock speakers for mid grade MB Quart units and it made whole bunch of difference!
Stock speakers were made of paper and actually molded into some kind of plastic frame that attaches to the door, making it look and operate cheap.
Next step I will extract line-output from the stock CD Player and add some semi-dissent power amp to get rid of the cheap integrated in our radio unit. Almost all CD palyers have good enough pickup for a car, but power amps are always made on a single chip which makes the whole thing sound like "ass".
Entire upgrade will run me ~$300 and I am sure it will outperform that JBL option.

If you have the JBL, your amp is mounted back where the sub (a calling it that is a real strech) is located.

I got stock radio with little mirrors on the back near hatch, so no external amp here

Well, my truck is at the dealership for the valve noise and they said it will be there few days. They will be reshimming valves in the left bank and replacing CD player.

Belt and pulley TSB related replacement did not fix anything as anticipated. I will keep you posted if you have any interest to this issue.

Toyota Quality

So what happened to Toyota quality on the 4runner? I realize that it is an all-new design but here we are at the end of the model year and all I read about are problems after problems after problems. I think the economizers at Toyota might have done too good of a job slicing costs on this new gen truck.

It still feels like very good truck, at least to me. I have not owned previous genreation 4Runner, so I have little to compare with. I think they stuck too many expensive car's features in this model, sacrificing reliability and quality just a little.
I also must say that my 4Runner problems are nothing in comparison to some real ˟˟˟˟ like Mitsubishi, or Ford, or the worst of them Land/RangeRover.

One thing I know for sure, if I return this unit under lemon law I will buy another one like that (limited edition this time) is a split second
