Yes,,,,another 3.0 power question(s)...
Team YotaTech,
(yes, I did a lot of searching on this forum, great info!!)
Okay, recently purchased a 94 4runner for my son. 3.0 engine (198k miles), auto tranny, 4.88 rear, 32x11.50 tires, lifted via BJ spacers and rear pucks.
So when I bought it, power wasn't too bad, I knew about the 3.slow name for the motor.
Had to get it smogged, and had issues with way too high NOX.
Timing was at like 25*BTDC, had to set it to 10*BDTC.
New O2 sensor, plug wires and etc...
Passed smog, but then it was gutless. Meaning going up a slight grade, I could barely hit 60mph. Really flat from 3000-4000 rpm's from 30-50 mph. It feels totally acceptable from a stop to 30mph and around town.
Since I was throwing money at this rig, I put in a new Cat too. Now it runs a little better, but I'm looking for decent feedback on the power issue.
I live in San Diego, sea level...now if I go up a grade on the freeway, I can hit 70mph, not in overdrive of course, but am rapping at about 3800-4000 rpm to stay at 70 mph.
Would you experts deem this as a normal scenario with this 3.0 with 198k miles??
Thanks for your feedback!
Mike
