Looks are subjective and actually Toyota has had a hit with the "box" and they are far from being a piece of crap for as little as they cost.
Now here's an Element that is real quick......

Still not my cup (er....box) of tea but runs low 13s up here at 5800ft asl and is the quickest one in the country.

Correct and as far as the story in the first of this thread. Mashing the ect. button and kicking down gears with a 3vze and it crankin 4000 rpms. with a automatic? Oh that 103 h.p. in the box with a few xtras of course. w/5speed redlines at 6000rpm. and cruises at 85-90mph on hwy.The moral of the story is a 4x4 3vze automatic will not out run or ever out handle a box.

That story is precisely what happend...in my imagination!

And I cruise at 95mph with a 800lb system in my truck with a curb wieght of 5000lbs. What's your point? And dont think for a second that Im stock or anywhere near as slow as most 3vze's (and for that matter xBs) are.

And ofr your edification the ECT button allows redlining of all gears - 5800rpm. The only error in my thread was that the tranny went from O/D into 2nd, unlocked the converter, and wound that out and left the xB. (Who btw was WOT, that irriating sound is unmistakeable.)

Yes I knew that. I have had more Toyota vehicles in the last 5 years than most people will have any kind of vehicle in a 90 year life span.

I have been taking it over 5,000rpm weekly for over a year. It runs better after I do. She is damn tough
the po took it too around 5,500 all the time for the years he owned it.
Long live the 3veeeezy

First of all, there is a virus on this site. As I opened this window, I get a crappy little pop up box telling me my silver server certificate has expired and I need to take action. So Web Master, do yo thing.
With the toaster behind you, it would have been a good time to dump all your windshield washer fluid onto your front windshield to make sure its really clean. The ricers hate getting their little polished turds wet.
Nice dream...

How could revving blow an HG? Maybe spin a bearing, throw a rod, cause valve float, and mabye even throw the cams timing off if the hydraulic tensioner/timing belt is bad... Sure it might not help the HG, but it would not directly cause its failure either. The HG fault is one of the uber-restrictive crossover resulting in a HOT #6 cylinder. That combined with an undersized exhuast valve (and intake for that matter) results in higher EGTs still. And when you throw in the banning of asbestoes in HG and you have the issue. The 3vze is a damn good engine when you correct those faults.
Secondarily ALL of the "vze" series of blocks were designed to rev extremely high. The sister engine to the 3vze, the 3vzfe, revvs to 6500rpm bone stock, and most of the camry guys into modding them revv them to 7200rpm - on forced induction to boot! (Stock internals at that too.) The 3vze was designed as a high torque alternative to the 22re/22rte and from what I've read, was used by toyota for their racing team until it was later supplanted by the 5vzfe which also was origionally meant to rev well above 6500.
What's also interesting to know is that for 220,000 miles my truck has seen 5800 rpm every day of its life, on most occasions 5-10x per drive.
