is it worth $4000

ok..so across the road from my house sittin under a barn with a couple tractors is an '89 pickup...V6 5spd 4x4 with less than 80,000 orignal miles..it starts up and runs like its brand new...its standard cab shortbed with a topper on the back of it no rust that i could see anywhere..it needs a set of tires and exhaust..other than that..its fine...the guy wants $4000 for it...what is it really worth..i figured since it needs tires and exhaust..then offer the guy about $3200 or $3500...sound like a deal...we really need a truck...we just sold our '02 dodge 4x4 CTD...so we have no pickup to pull our 18ft nitro and it has a V6 so i figured it can pull it.. the 4wd works great...no funky sounds or anything.thanks for the input.. i'll take some pictures of it here sometime today most likely...

In BC it would be worth about $6000 or more if it were in as good condition as you say. My guess is that in the states, $3500 is a more reasonable price, but I don't know what prices are like in your area.

What I'm saying is that it is not UNreasonable, but not a great price either.

$4000 would be a great deal on that truck in my area. In NC it would pull between $5k and $6k. If I were the seller I wouldn't neg. the price.

It's an 89 standard cab, I wouldn't pay more than 3K for it.

sounds like a good deal for socal prices, BUT,

3.0 v6 towing an 18 foot trailer?

are you sure youre looking at the right truck?

i dont tow anything with my 3.0, i use an old 1984 f250 with 351 & 4 speed
Ugly, yes, but first gear will rip the gates off Hell.

well..we probably wont have this toyota forever...i think if we get it..then it will just be to hold us over until we can get back into a full-size pickup...yea..i dont think it would tow it very good..but the farthest we ever tow our Nitro is about 15 or 20 miles...just state highways..no more than about 65 mph..lol..i think it could do that cant it?...

hmm..not exactly sure...somewhere between 3000 and 4000lbs fully loaded with a 150 mariner and a full tank of gas..(it RARELY sees a full tank of gas...like..never...)lol..kind of a LOT of weight to be pullin with a lil yota...but theres a guy around here with a 4cyl 4x4 chevy luv with a 4in lift and 33's..he pulls a 16 ft boat to the lake up some knarly hills all the time during the summer..so i think this B6 yota could do it

i didnt expect it to be tow rig...thats what our 02 dodge 4x4 CTD was for...but we sold it..so we need a replacement for a lil bit...it will pull a 14 ft aluminum flat bottom most though..lol..it only weighs about 100 lbs...maybe 300 or 400 with trailer...motor and gas tank and allllllll our fishin gear..lol

no doubt it'll do it. it'll be real hard on the engine, and clutch, and I wouldn't ever expect to his 65 unless you're on a straight stretch of interstate downhill lol.

i doubt that your flat bottom boat is 400lbs with the trailer. you'd be surprised what a trailer weighs

If that is an extra-cab its well worth $4000.....if its a standard cab throw $3500 at him and see if he'll take it....worse case he'll say "NO".
As far as the 3.0.....I have a '93 extra-cab 3.0 5spd. and its no speed demon but does have some good low end torque and my feelings are is if you're towing something you need torque, NOT speed.
I have a buddy that has a lifted '91 extra-cab 3.0 5spd. and he tows a modified Suzuki Sidekick on a dual axle car hauler with electric brakes.
He does just fine on the highways and up hills....like I said no speed demon but thats not what you'd want for towing.
If you have electric brakes on your boat trailer you'll be fine.....if you don't it wouldn't be a bad idea to add them no matter whats pulling it.

I tow 2500lbs with my 3.0, and it's downright embarassing.

I had an 86 Ranger that I would tow my dolly (at least 1000lbs) and cars on top. I never really toped it out but I could go 65mph pretty easy. It was a long bed v6 (2.9L), 2wd, and 5spd

I guess its not really an issue anymore seeing as he won't sell,
but you might be a tad suprised at what a 3.0 will move. I pulled my sisters
1995 Accord on a dolly behind my 92 Xcab 3.0 on 33's stock gears and
no rear brakes Granted not the smartest or fastest way to go about
it but it was all I had to work with at the time and it moved it slow but sure
