Wonky key issues.

OK,

I have a 1991 4Runner SR5 V6.
The key I got when I bought the truck was the valet key.
So I went to the dealership, gave them my vin, and they punched a key out for me and gave me the key code.

Fine, dandy.

However, it only unlocks the drivers side door and starts the ignition, just like the valet key.
I took the key back, and had them make me another one.
Same Dealio.

finally the other night I started messing with the key.
I can get it to roll the rear window down, but I can't get it to roll it up.
And I can unlock form the passengers side, but I have to wiggle it to do that.

Ideas?

Thanks!

After buying my '93, I went and had a spare made. They had to redo it 5 times to get it to work in all the locks, and even now it isn't too good in the passenger door.

There is another thread about this active right now too...guess we have picky locks.

Sounds like you might have an issue with the exterior window control itself. If you can get the key to roll the window down it should work to move it back up. If not, my money is on the lock/window itself. Not your key.

Tailgate cylinder has a tiny switch that clips to the back of it. $8.00 shipped. Use spray graphite on all cylinders.

I had the same problem a few years back. My key would work with every thing but the back window, (It would go down but not up). I noticed that my key was a little worn so I ended up switching to a spare key and every thing worked fine. I went ahead and made a few copies of the working key just incase....

Umm guys, the window not working isn't really his problem. It is the key, it only works in the driver door and the ignition.

You might want to go back and talk to them till they gave you one that works, it can sometimes take a bit.
