I did some forum searches on here but did not see anything that directly answered my question so here I am. I bought my first Toyota pickup about a month ago, a White 1991 Regular Cab DLX 4x4 5-Speed pickup with a 22R-E. 203,000 miles. Love it so far, and recently started doing some junkyard upgrades and I have a question about wiring harnesses. I bought a glovebox light and switch from a 1992 4runner and I cannot for the life of me find the connection points for them behind the glovebox, does anybody know where they are hidden? Did the DLX and SR5 trims come with a different wiring harness? I looked at the FSM and it did not say there is a difference in wiring between any of the models so I am inclined to believe the harnesses are the same, meaning the wiring points are just hidden in the dash somewhere. Any help that can be offered would be appreciated. Thanks!
Despite no mention of multiple possibilities of wiring harness in the FSM, Toyota had many different part numbers, depending on drive line and trim level options.
Going through a quick search, Toyota had more than 50 different part numbers between that era of Truck and 4Runners for the "cowl" dash wiring harness alone!
Why so many? I am not sure. It seems that Toyota could pair that down to just a handful.
I believe that the wiring for the glove box illumination was only included if the truck came with the "illumination" package, if memory serves me correctly.
Other wiring, such as the main Air Conditioning wiring and the digital clock wiring was included on all models.
From the factory, the glove box lamp was wired to the tail lights. This means the glove box lamp would only work if the tail/parking lights or headlights were on.
I would have to do more digging to see exactly how the glove box was wired and what color wires you should be looking for.

That's actually very helpful, thank you for the insight. I did some digging in the FSM after reading this and I am trying to see if there is a way I could safely integrate it into my harness without too much cutting but I might just leave it be.
