windshield sprayer problem

i bought this truck recently and the sprayer is not functioning properly. at first the sprayer was not working but i took it apart and put it back together and now its running. the problem is that it seems to not be putting out enough pressure to get the water out the sprayer nozzles. im not sure if i need to just replace the motor or if there are other known problems with this system. 89 extended cab with 40k orig miles. thanks, adam

I had the same problem. I thought the pump had failed.
Turned out it was a blockage on the inlet side of the washer pump.
Cleared the blockage and it work great now.

good luck

Pop the squirters back out of the hood and using an rubber tipped air nozzle back purge them. Repeat the procedure for the lines, adding water back into them (from the open side versus the canister side) until you don't see any more silt and debris coming into the canister. Pull the canister out and flush it out a few times and then fill it with a 50/50 mix of water and vinegar (like you do when cleaning out a coffee machine) let it soak for like an hour or so, and then plug it back into the plug, without plugging in the lines. Secure it to the outside of your rig, or use a spare fish tank line long enough to run outside the vehicle. Run the washer fluid motor off and on until it starts pushing out any debris trapped in the impeller.

If that doesn't work it's time for a new motor.

Just bumping to add some useful info for the next person. We had a similar issue on our Tundra. The fluid would barely drip out of the nozzles. One didn't even drip.

I replaced the washer fluid with 9% vinegar and just ran it, non-stop. After a couple minutes, it started to flow a little better. A few minute more: better. Eventually, all four nozzles were spraying like new. I filled up with washer fluid and it's been great ever since.
