Question will the lil' 22re pull this?

Hey guys looking to buy a 5x8' utility trailer for hauling my riding mower around. Will my 91 toyota 2wd pickup handle this with ease? The trailer has a gvwr of 2000lbs, but all i am gonna tow is a riding mower. My towing setup consists of a factory bumper and just a tow ball bolted to the bumper. Will this be safe to tow this trailer? Do i need a class 2 or 3 reciever hitch to pull this 5x8' trailer? thanks guys...

I am sure it will pull it. I doubt you will be winning any land speed records while towing with a 22RE. What condition is your clutch in? If you have a wimpy clutch I would shy away from towing.

I to my 5x8 all over with 2 motorcycles and all my gear for the race track. I've run from upstate New York all through the mountains down to southern Virginia. Wan't the fastest thing, but putting in the EB 268 cam made a world of difference.

As far as the hitch, mines a Class III. I prefer the box frame construction as opposed to the tube frame construction of the Class II's. But a II should work for your weight. The difference was like $10 between the two so I went with the bigger one again due to the construction.

Oh ya - I used to tow 3500lbs and more with my 85 22re. At one point I had over 4 tonnes in the box. I used to tow a 3500lb lanscape Enclosed & loaded with gear) trailer all the time. I have pulled a bobcat with it as well

ive pulled a little utility trailer around bigger than that one with an 86 4runner. it was fine. and there was just a ball mounted on the bumper like yours. was custom made and was supposed to be a lil stronger with suports and what not. but when it came down to it it was still being towed by the bumper. seemed to do ok. we pullled bikes and what not in it. you should be ok with just a mower

You can pull it easy I'd be more worried about stopping it. I've pulled the same size utility trailer around. And my brother-in-law pulled a massive car trailer with a truck on it with mine right off the bumper. Make sure your brakes are adequate enough to stop it. But you'll be able to do it with ease.

I had a cressida in the box of my 90 pickup before.

Well, motor, tranny, windows, brakes/struts. Man, i don't even remember everything we had back there. But it was definatly enough to make a junk yard worker blush.

Just be careful not to exceed the weight for the bumper. They are usually 150lbs toungue and 1500 pull. Check your manual to be sure. If you are going to tow heavier be sure to get a hitch

i would get a hitch reciever instead of using the bumber, they rust on the inside then fail when you finally put a load on them.

I just towed a 6'x10' trailer with two ATVs from Washington state to Alabama and back over the Cascades and Rockies with the bed loaded to the top of my camper and I was able to run 75 to 80 all the way except going up the steeper hills. This trip was 3000+ miles each way.

<<<<<with this truck

You will have no problems with the trailer and mower.

the weak link in the chain is the 5th gear bearing in the W56 transmission. it is stuck out on the end of the shaft and has no support, so it tends to wear more. thats what Marlin told me after their first transmission i bought only lasted a little more than a year. and yes. it was the HD W56.

my stock bumper says it's rated for 350lbs tongue weight, the same as my class 3 receiver, however, i wouldn't trust a fly on my bumper in it's present state.

I haul an enclosed 6x8...

Full of band gear... probably 1000 or so pounds....

It makes it up the grapevine... (I-5 area between tejon and frazier park, CA residents know what im talking about. it sucks.)

That is, at 40 MPH in 3rd gear at 3000 rpm.

I pull an 18ft car hauler whenever my friends rigs break down, which is at least once a month. I've hauled compact trucks and cars upwards of 4 hours in my 2.7 lifted and locked automatic tacoma. It's slow, yeh, I get passed all the time, and I'm sure my transmission shifting up and down non-stop is awfully bad but hey, what's a guy to do other than hit the four-ways on the uphills. I have had 100 gallon diesel tanks in the bed full of fuel as well and let me tell you, the trucks slow, but it will pull it. I've got 200,000 thousand miles on my pup-truck and I figure the tranny should be turning too mush any time now. But until then...I'll keep treating my taco like it's a true fullsize 1/2 ton truck.
