wildbill's 89 4runner
Here's my new toy . . . no pun intended.
My first toyota and my first automatic transmission. I've been a licensed driver for 13 years and have always enjoyed the 3rd pedal. however for 900 bucks I felt this 4runner in the salt state of CT was a pretty good deal. maybe pretty is the wrong word . . .
I built a cafe racer out of a 73 honda cb350 a few winters ago and kept up on a build thread on another site. I was thinking of doing something similar here for repairs and maintenance. everything will be done on the cheap, as this truck only has to be functional and not pretty. used auto sheet metal and plexiglass coming soon.
If this thread doesn't hold interest, no big deal, it'll just fade away like whispers in the night. lol
here's the beast. as you can tell it needs a little work

Nice Runner! Looks solid. (Ok, they all do haha). I'm no mechanic but I have fixed up my '92 Runner and its a solid machine: don't cheap out on parts, get as much OEM as you can, the quality makes a difference. What engine is in there? History? Good luck.

its the 4 banger. I dont trust the v6 motors.
I bought it from a guy that only had it a year or two. he had quite a bit of land and used it to move firewood from his barn out back to the barn up closer to his house. he said it was cheaper than any utility quad he could find.
The cardboard window is on there because the previous owner attempted to put the top on himself. I'm surprised he only broke one window. that things heavy!
It had pro comp mud terrains all around. two were getting kinda low on tread, and didn't provide much snow traction at all. I found two used 33x12.5 bfg all terrains with 70-75% tread left so i slapped those on up front.
The truck came with a new cap, rotor, wires and plugs installed and boxes of parts including wheel bearings, lower ball joints, outer tie rods, throttle position sensor, thermostat, more wires, two manuals and probably a few other things i'm forgetting right now. I drove it home and found out the air filter in this box of parts was not the right one for the truck and that the truck had no air filter in it at all!
I removed a huge mouse nest from the blower motor, disinfected the whole interior and have gone through about 3 or 4 tanks of gas since i purchased it. I put a pepboys cherry bomb turbo muffler on it with some pipe, so its quiet but not too quiet.

So i finally stopped at lowes for some plexiglass. I picked up .220 inch think 18" by 24" sheet. Made a few measurements, cut, used some leverage to work the window into the track. If your eyes are good you might have already seen the black zip tie about half way down the left side of the plexiglass securing it in place. pay no attention to the bottom right corner
i got a window!
i got a window!
