So I was heading out this morning to pick up a few things and was following a '07 Mustang GT and buddy slammed on his brakes cause someone pulled out in front of him. I applied my brakes pretty hard and it just kept going to the floor...luckily there was a common center lane so I swerved and missed the guy by inches! Scared the crap outta me. I had a peek underneath and noticed fluid pissing out on the front right/pass. side. Could I have blown a line? Just had my front brakes done last year along with rear brake lines(only put 10000km/yr) and rear shoes were done last week...I suspected it was the shop messing with stuff but that would be cruel. Guess I gotta find the source of where the fluid is coming out eh?

Ya, it was close....I even yanked the e-brake but it didn't do much cause only the rear right wheel activates cause I was too cheap to spend $31 on a dinky cable...I think I'll go get it as insurance! Looks like my lines are rotted...can't really tell yet but we'll see. Where should I get lines from...I imagine the dealer would be $$$. Is there specific lenghts or is it cut to size sorta thing?

 

Replace them with braided lines.

 

If your truck is lifted, you may need longer brake hoses. Don't muck around, just get the proper ones. Any brake shop can help you out. Stainless brake hoses take a bit of know-how to install, but regular ones are pretty straightforwards, as long as you know how to bleed brakes, and have the proper flarenut wrenches to get the pipe nuts loose.

 

What's broken?
The flex lines or hard lines?

You need to figure that out first.

I pin-pointed the leak on the hard line(s) traced it to the front right/pass side, by the A-arm just before it reaches the frame. They're the lines for the rear....guess not all the lines were replaced last year when I had them done. Unfortunately I won't be able to do the work (back)so I'll have to take it in. At least I know where the leak is so they can't rip me....too much. There is still some fluid left in the MC, just below the min...about a cm maybe. Would it do any harm if I drive it in....other than obvious reasons of safety...I'm talking damage to the brake system itself? Should the level stay higher? Thanks.

 

To drive it in I would top off the fluid level and try and patch the leak as much as possible... for safety reasons. I don't think there is any damage you would do other than what would happen when you rear-ended someone because you lost your brakes
