Who else has made it worse by trying to adjust their valves? (22re)
Just curious, I know when i adjusted them the first time I was so much worse. Then the second time if possible it was even louder. I think the third time it was about the same.
didn't start to really get better until the 4th or 5th time. I think i have adjusted them 8 times now over 3 years and i am still not as quiet as it was when i bought the truck.
Anybody else try to adjust their valves only to make it worse?

Yeah, I did the valves on my 22RE 'sewing machine' twice. The first time, I set them to the factory specs (.007 and.011 or something) when I installed my new timing chain kit. Anyway, when I opened it up later, they were much wider than what I set them at. The second time I cranked them down a few thousandths extra, and it got noticeably quieter. It still ticked a little, but it was better, and I didn't notice any change in performance. I was told that setting your valves too tight can be a bad thing. I ran the truck like that for 25,000, before I sold it.

...also, I ran the engine on Mobile 1 syn 15w50, and that quieted the noise also. Using the wrong oil is an entire discussion, but it ran nice and smooth. I got 21-23mpg average with my regular cab 4cyl manual 4.10s and 31x10x15s.

Full rebuild 30k miles ago with new chain, guides and tensioner
I know it was just me, because it was nice and quite when i got the truck, then after reading many a post on yotatech about valve adjustment i thought i would try my hand at it.
Should have seen my face when i started it up after the first adjustment
