Where to check for faulty CEL. 90' Runner 3.0

Just about done with the HG replacement on my runner. The Check Engine Light has never came on since I bought it. I recently found out that if I leave my key on "Run" the light never comes on. With my entire engine harness disconnected from everything it never comes on. And now I have everything hooked up but my AFM and it wont come on. I'm not to the point of starting it yet, I still have to hook up my plug wires and exhaust, then I'll start it to double check and make sure my timing is correct, and it runs good, then I'll finish buttoning it up.

But I'm pretty sure my CEL is not working right. Is there some wires somewhere I can test and put some volts to it to? Or am I just going to have to tear into my dash?

Thanks!

You should be able to bridge the jumper in the diagnostic port in the engine compartment. It will cause the CEL to blink whether or not there is an error code. Can't remember off hand what the terminals are that you want to bridge.
