Smile Wheels & Offset information-Please.

Original owner of an 89 SR5 pick-up 4X4. When I bought the truck, it came with the stock steel wheels. I would like to dress it up and install 15X7JJ factory mag wheels (four spoke mags of that year) My owners manual specifies 15X7JJ, and no mention of offset. I know that the 4Runners used 15X7JJ with an 8 offset. From what I have read, the offset is in millimeters, which should equate to about 5/16 of an inch. My question is; Can I put those wheels on my truck with the 8 offset? Is the offset positive or negative? I have been in touch with various Toyota dealers in the area, and no one seems to know the answer. I even contacted Toyots's hot line, and they were not able to give me an answer. I did get hold of a wheel dealer in California, and they said no problem. Anyone got some good info on this? Thanks.
