wheeling tomorrow, advice?
Well I got past the break in for the Aussie and tomorrow I'm planning on making a run to Rio Puerco, if I can find it.
This is my first time wheeling a Toyota and the first time with an IFS. Since I'm a little concerned about body damage perhaps some of ya'll can hand down some sage advice? Thanks again for everything guys.

That and I don't have ANY of that stuff listed in "what to take" yet. All my money has been spent on getting the rig to this point.
Oh and no one to go with either. My Jeep buddy bailed again.

DONT GO BY YOURSELF EVEN WITH A LOCKER UNLESS YOU HAVE A WINCH AND ARE DAM SURE OF YOUR RIG... its not worth it,, maybe just find a local mudpit to check out your locker in.. you need a tow strap atleast...
look for a offroad club in your area and go out with them!!!
ours goes out atleast once a week!

Dang it!
I want to go really really badly but I don't want to do something stupid. I did some digging around tonight and I have my (extensive) tool box, about 20' of chain, shovel, pickaxe, gloves and some survival gear. I'm still on my own though.
Dang it all to Hades. You have no idea how much this bothers me. Although it does give me the chance to get that Warn and a recovery bag........
Once again it's the "spend more money on a rig I haven't even wheeled yet-so I can get the rig ready to wheel-if I have enough money to get it ready" situation. I'm starting to feel like a mall crawler. POOP!

if you want to wheel by your self see if there are any off road vehicle parks around, somewere were there will be alot of people that way you dont go "missing" usually fellow weelers or anyone out there will help if something seriously goes wrong. also figure in the weather, up here i dont do much alone because it can snow or freeze even in august!!

Just go somewhere that is popular with wheelers. Down here in So Cal, there are never times when I'm completed secluded. So you're essentially always with other people

Going wheeling by yourself is stupid. Ever see trucks left up on the trail because the owner wheeled by himself and got stuck?
Wait for a buddy to be able to go with you. 2 trucks minimum!
Bring tools and some spare parts, like belts, fuses (always with EFI engines!) and tie rod ends.
Bring a spotter!

yea its worth the wait especially if you going out on a test.. my first test my clutch disk caught fire and i lost a brake lone getting towed out... and another time i almost hydro locked in a puddle that didnt look deep...
DONT GO WHEELING ALONE UNLESS your prepared too call your truck in stolen cause if its left out in the woods its gonna get
i know how bad you wanna go test your new toys.. but like i said before try and find just a mudhole off the road not far.. then if you need to call you can...but dont go down a trail further than 1 hole!

If the trail is not that bad just give er. I am always exploring logging roads by my self, and my truck has never let me down. I dont do any rock crawling and I am careful about going into uncharted mud pits. There are usually other wheelers out on the weekends as well. I bring my cell, and worst case I might have to walk for a few hours.
Basicly I am just driving on gravel roads or dirt trails, nothing a Toyota cant handle.
My truck is stock, 235 tires, and I dont have a winch...I think you will be fine.

It's not even in the same spot. It was moved.
Anyhow, don't wheel alone unless you like the idea of being stuck or injured alone. Never, ever use chain for a recovery. Make sure your tools are strapped down and cannot become shrapnel.
Carry water and blankets in case you do get stranded and have to wait it out over night.

yeah i have seen that happen to alot of trucks up here i have slept in my truck and wait ed to hike out early the next morning so i didn't have to leave it alone over night. most that type of stuff happens late when people get stupid. also if you break down near big crouds it is less likely to get vandalized than in a secluded space becuase people dont like witnesses to that kind of stuff.
