What's This do???

so im putting my 22re back together and i wanted to know what this is it looks like it was disabled there was a vacuum cap on the one vac port i don't have emissions testing up here so i dont know if it would have passed. really i just want to know if i need it.

PAIR resonator. The top fitting goes to a fitting above the air filter and the lower fitting goes to the PAIR valve (a.k.a. reed valve) below the intake manifold.

for emsissons not really needed but i would put it back on if it were mine... my 86 doesn't have that. they started putting thoose on 88 and later model 22rs. if you leave it off make sure you block off all vac ports.

The toilet bowl float looking thing is the resonator, the other end is the PAIR reed valve. It is part of emissions. It "injects" fresh air into the exhaust to aide the cat converter with its process at warm up.
