What are the two plastic boxes on the side of the airbox?...
...and can I get rid of them?
The top "box" is attached to the airbox lid assembly, and has a hose connecting to a pipe that runs along the top of the timing belt cover and another hose connecting to the airbox. What is this? What does it do? Can I get rid of it? If so, just plug the pipe and the airbox union?
Under that box is another plastic box that also connects via hose to a pipe over the timing belt cover. What is this? What does it do? Can I get rid of it? If so, just plug the pipe, or???
As soon as I get to town, I'm buying parts for the ISR mod to "clean up" the airway between the airbox and the intake. I'd like to get rid of everything I can in the way of weird looking black plastic boxes and ducts around the airbox.
I'm in Oregon. I keep my vehicles properly tuned and running clean, but there's no emissions testing here.
Thanks!

Hello Elton, thanks for the link. I live near Sumpter, west of Baker City.
Okay, the lower box is the silencer. The ISR mod apparently eliminates the silencer and requires that the silencer hose be attached to a fitting on the new ISR pipe.
What is the function of that hose attached to the intake airstream? What happens if you just plug it?
What is the black plastic box located directly above the silencer? Can it be tossed and the pipes blocked off?
Thanks!
