What is this???

Hello Everyone,

As I have mentioned in another post, I know jack squat about working on cars, However, I am not afraid of getting my hands dirty, I just need guidance... in plan english.

Working another issue I found this (see pic below) just hanging out. What the heck is this, what does it do, and most importantly, shouldn't something be connected to the loose end?

Thanks,

Jim
'86 Toyota pickup; 2WD; Engine is fuel injection, but I am not sure of size, I think it is 22R; 5 speed manual

The engine is the 22RE. E for electronic fuel injection. That unconnected hose is actually supposed to be that way. The disc-like cannister is called the dashpot. It is a diaphragm and it slows the throttle closing down as you go from an open throttle position to an idle position. I think the delay it causes gives the computer controlled fuel injection system a few moments to stabilize.

So, no, nothing missing there.
