what is this?

sry, but im fairly new to trucks and wheelin. this appears to stop the tire from moving up any further, but as you can see, the space between it and the bar is only a few inches. can it be taken off for more up/down movement? if i did, the tire would have a bunch more movement, but still have limitation by the big metal thing so it doesn't over flex. would it work, or would it end up in disaster? theres another one on the other side of the truck, but its kind of loose.

No I would leave it. Looks like your shocks are pretty beat up too. Time for some new ones.

You can get low profile bump stops, but you definately need one. It is supposed to stop the suspension from travelling too far and breaking things.

Oh, sorry. Out of my ballpark, mine are still stockers, so I have no experience. If you use the search button there are plenty of threads that will help you decide. Best of luck.

If you want to increase flex I'd suggest installing bj spacers and loosening up the tbar a little... It's a very nice combination and gives 1.5" more wheel travel.

By the way, how are you guys so sure that shock is worn out just because it doesn't have paint on it?

Last time I checked all of the moving parts in a shock were on the inside. I can see a few bad winters eating off all of the paint on the outside on a shock with plenty of life left in it...
