W56, same for both forward and top shift Tcase?

couldnt find this with searches. quick question: I have a forward shift right now and about to buy a used W, but Seller not sure if it was paired with a Forward or Top shift Tcase.. does it matter or are the transmissions the same anyway? can I just pop my Tcase, Shifter plate (with 2 shifters), on that used tranny and call it good?
thanks

marlin crawler website has a great description of it.

Also has a bit of info on this site. I recommend setting it as a favorite http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/faq/parts/
