VSV models/years?

Are all VSVs created equal? I have an 88 pickup (22r-e) that has the rear one (EGR I think) that has melted. I am curious if I can take any VSV from Toyota that has the same type plug and have it properly work? Thanks

As long as it does the same thing, yes.

Need to have the same number of ports.
It will either be normally open or normally closed.
Some have a "filtered" external port, others don't.

Are they 'color-coded' as far as doing the same thing concerned (normally open or closed)? How does one tell which it is? Thanks

Part number should be on the VSV. They are NOT all created equal. To my knowledge they ARE color coded.

Look at any of the online OEM part suppliers, like toyotapartseast.com put your vin number in and search for VSV you need. It will tell you which manufacture year range you can use. BTW those little buggers are PRICEY new.
