At vs Manual ECU

1994 4Runner

Are the ECUs for the Automatic and the Manual transmission the same? Can I use a manual ECU in an automatic vehicle?

I know I have an auto ECM in my manual, but I don't know if it would work the other way around. I believe the tranny needs input from the TPS and possibly other sensors.
