Valve job pleasantries

Has anyone ever been adjusting valves on a 22re and had the adjustment open up a little after you torque the adjustment nut down?

For a few times around (im on the 6th) Ive been getting the cover off to find at least 2 gaps are open more with the adjustment nut not really loose or anything..do these things creep open a little sometimes?

just following the FSM.

Ive just had 4 valves replaced after bending em

Ive got a out of ordinary valve tap that im trying to get out and keep finding loose gaps after adjustment..havent done many but im not that good at it from what I can tell here! unless they come loose sometimes. I leave a little drag in the gauge on 8 intake 12 exhaust.

Ive been taking the nut and adjustment screw apart to look for stripping but theyre lookin good, I have seen one half sliver of a thread come out of an adjustment nut or two. Im adjusting things at the lowest point on cam lobe.

Do these things open up even a little for any reason, besides a bent valve that wont close all the way, or just plain loose nut

when u tighten up the nuts hold the adjustment screw with a screwdriver and use a open end wrench to tighten down this should help keep them where u wait it set and not opening more.

^I agree, that's how i did mine, and I had a nasty valve tap until I closed mine to .007 and .011, and while you're in there check the torque on your head bolts.

Ya im gonna go back in today and take em down a hair..I was holding them in place while snugging them down.

The weird thing is as you tighten the adjustment screw if anything would follow the direction your moving and close up a little instead of open like is happening here. After torquing them down with a click style wrench or by hand they would stay tight until the last pull then open a little.

Ill keep checking after the torque down its 18ft lbs. Just wondered if they work themselves open during running without the nut coming loose.
