Valve Cover Gaskets

Hey,

I was going to replace my valve cover gaskets, they're leaking oil, and do a compression test ahead of time to see how the HG was holding up (I'm losing coolant somewhere, I don't leak coolant, nor is my oil milky, but I don't know where its going, any ideas would be great). What else should I take care of as long as I'm in there? I already did plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, fuel filter. I purchased the runner in Sept. and did some minor things (fluids and filters), but now I have more time. What should I check/take care of? Thanks.

First thing to check is your radiator and hoses if you are losing coolant externally.

PS: Where are you at in Northern IL?

I'm near Aurora, where's Pecatonica. I'm not losing any externally in terms of drips/leaks, the only thing that I'm leaking is some oil from the valve covers.

You can also check your accessory belts and timing belt while you are in there. I'm about 90 minutes west of you.

Cool, thanks. Where do you do your wheeling at?

My friends have a small woods with some steep hills, but I don't wheel my truck hardly at all. I ride my quads instead. I just use my truck to haul stuff and in bad weather. I bought it how it is; I would actually prefer it to be stock but don't want to mess with it.

It is possible that the coolant leak is small and it requires some pressure for it to leak, and once it does leak, it immediately evaporates.

go to an auto store and get some infared dye and add it to your coolant. Then after a day or two or normal and hard driving check with a blacklight, that way you can determine if you have any external leaks.

it may be leaking from your thermostat, and getting blown by the fan.

man i hate coolant leaks i replaced my rad about a month ago. The best place to wheel around here is the cliffs near Seneca. there's a couple of mud pits but the cops watch them to close for my luck.

Hey thanks for the replies. I hope I can find where that stuff is going. It'll be sweet to fix that Valve Cover leak, and my Doestch Tech shocks came and my BJ spacers and OME coils are in the mail. I'm gonna have a new truck! Oh, and if there's anything else that you guys think I should fix while I'm in there let me know. Thanks.
