valve click

I adjusted my valves while the engine was warm to spec, and now they seem to be a lot noisier when cool, but seem to sound fine warm. Is this normal? is there something i may have missed?

I had a similar problem when I adjusted my valves, except the first time I adjusted them I had SEVERE valve tap whether then motor was cold or warm. 4 tries later after adjusting them tighter and tighter when warm, the noise finally became tolerable. Still was louder than before I started though...

The only solution I can think of is that when re-adjusting be sure you clamp the gauge in between the valve stem and rocker really well. Seriously though, be sure it takes a good bit of force to remove the feeler gauge. Worked for me...kinda.

I have the Crane stage 2 cam in my head and they recommend setting the valve lash at .008/.010 instead of the stock .008/.012 setting.

I set mine at that and have the quietest running Toyota I have ever heard.

engnbldr suggests going even tighter and even on the stock cam...

"We suggest .007" intake and .009" exhaust on all of our designs for quietest operation, and we have even set the stock cam at that reading with no harm."

My is absolutely fine at .008/.010...
