Valve Adjustment

Valve Adjustment
I have a 1988 4runner, with a 22r engine. I want to check the valve adjustment, and most sites online recommend setting them while the engine is hot., Is this necessary or is there a way to set them while the engine is cold and still get the same results? What is the correct settings for the intake and the exhaust? Thanks

have you tried running a forum search? not trying to be non-helpful, but this has been covered a lot on this forum (ie, the 22re). iow's, i'm recommending a search because there's already a lot of helpful tips/info/opinion for your consideration on how to do this. not to mention what settings to use. most probably go with factory specs, but some have used modified settings for quieter valves.

Just watch this YouTube video it's pretty easy
https://youtu.be/xc0Vsl2cdHU
if it is your first time go ahead and get up every valve correctly and then start again do it all over just in case
don't forget to put some gasket maker or silicone on the half moons

The FSM says to warm the engine......Just saying....
The easiest way I've found to do them is to warm the engine, use the right feeler gauge but dont worry about a slight drag.
Instead try to move the arm up and down. Turn the adjustment screw until the arm doesn't move up and down but you can still slide the feeler gauge in and out.
I was able to adjust them in just a few minutes. My 22R has never ran this quite.

This is exactly how I'm going to adjust mine when the time comes for it.
