okay,this little filter or valve has been hanging in the front since i got this 4runner a few months ago.what is it and is it supposed to have another hose to it,and run to where,if so?its an '86 non-turbo efi 22re

 

Nope. That is right where it is supposed to be. It's the check valve and air filter for the dash pot which is the little goldish can that hose runs to.

 

Probably not your year or whatnot, but the diagram shows the "little hanging thing" referred to as the VTV.
