V6AT wont shift into OD

I have a 1988 4runner and it runs great and all but when it is cold it will not shift into OD. It has to be driven around for prolly about 30-45 minutes before it shifts out of 3rd gear. When it does it hits like a mid between 3 and 4. Say im going 60MPH that is apx. 3000RPM when it shifts to the mid gear it drops to about 2400-2500RPM then about 15-25 sec. later it goes into OD and drops to around 2000RPM. If anyone has any suggestions on what is happening it would be greatly Appreciated.

To my understanding the transmission is controled by the ECM and will not shift into OD until the engine reaches a certain temp. On my 94 Pick up it's about 145 degrees by the gauge. 30 to 45 minutes seems like a little to long and you may need to check your engine temp sensor. As far as the other shifts mine has been that way as long as I can remember unless I've got the hammer down.

Or the Tranny Fluid temp sensors. I believe there are two of them on an A340H.
