i don't know, its a used junk yard radiator, its from an 3rd gen 4runner v6 its a 3 row radiator and larger than the one that came in my 2wd 4cyl, especially after the flush it is clean and never had any over heating problems threw out the summer.

does this mean a V6 radiator will fit into an 87 4x4 w a 22r? just curious. What about the v6 fan blade is it needed?

I had a v6 radiator in my first gen pickup. It didnt fit, the hood wouldnt close. You should be able to fit it in a 2nd gen though. The hood has enough space to allow a larger radiator since they had v6 2nd gen models.

well today i modded my t-stat and ill say no more coolent temp spikes off cold start. in the 4crawler thread it said 1 or 2 1/16th holes, well after drilling the first one i thought how can that small of a hole make any differance so i drilled a second one and installed it, hindsight i probably should have just stuck with one, i drove home from our shop it was -5 out with a -15 windchill and it would have normally spiked about half way home (about a 15-20 min drive) it never got quite up quite to where it should be running, just shy. it still got warm enough pretty quick for decent heat so i'm just going to run it as is for now, i'm not sure if ill plop the 40 bucks for a Toyota t-stat or just go get another and drill only a single hole in it. but for now i'm just happy not having to turn the heat off to get the coolant temp to drop. it gets cold in the cab mighty quick when you turn the heat off...lol

EZRider, I just bought the Toyota part # 90916-03078(haven't installed it yet) and it was $26. Parts dept at the dealer doesn't stock the 90916-03070 part, but they could order it and charge $51!

The thermostat I'll be replacing is a real cheap after market part... probably with no bypass, explaining why I'm having the same temperature overshoot problem. The bypass in the new one I bought at the dealer is a small hole with a captive metal rod in the hole. I'll try to post a picture later.

90916-03078 is not the right one, that is only the stock replacement not the one listed for the tsb. I doubt it's gonna work. The one you bought you could gotten a similar one at an autozone for $10. the 51 they mentioned is about the going rate for the dualstage. cheap insurance if you ask me.

Well, dang. Maybe I oughta snip the little rod captured in the hole before I install it to give it a little more bypass.

Or maybe just return it and drill a hole in the cheapo stat that's installed already.

the thermostat i have installed has a captured rod although very tight fitting, it was 6 bucks at o'rileys the one that i took out to when i thought it was a t-stat failer had a little ball that was held in by two flaps of metal it overshot less often than the one with the captured rod.

Im haviung the same problem with my 86 4x4. I replaced water pump, fan clutch, and t-stat. none of that worked. I'm 95% possible I've got a head gasket issue now. Are you loosing coolant too?

no coolant loss other than the couple of times i boiled over and it went into the recovery tank and then got sucked back in when the motor cooled off. i have about 10k on a rebuilt motor right now.

if your loosing coolant its very possible that you have a blown hg. check for a sweet smell in the exhaust, check the oil if it looks milky at all, you can also test the coolant for exhaust gasses using a kit from the auto parts store.
