Universal fuel filter and custom lines

Something went wrong with the filter because it started leaking around the fittings at a steady drip. I went to change it thinking it would be a routine job.. but it turned into hell.

After checking it out, it was pretty badly rusted. I could not get the bolts off to save my life. After messing with it for a while, one of the lines just tore off. I'm guessing it had a tear in it already..

So my plan now is to use the fitting that attaches to the line from the tank.. and use the fitting that attaches to the injectors.. and attach new fuel lines to some kind of universal fuel filter. This way I can just abandon the old one and never look at it again.

With it being a pressurized system, can I do something like this? Also, will any fuel filter work? I read one thread on here where someone had run new lines with pressure clamps and that was enough to keep things from leaking.

This is a 22RE

I have mounted a few of these filters to the inner fender.

As long as you use fuel injection hose and clamps and a filter rated for what you need you should be ok
